Bani Malek
Two days. One night above the valleys. A complete crossing from Asfah to Qamlan.
Rising to approximately 2,511 metres above sea level in the highlands of Bani Malek, south of Taif , Jabal Ibrahim stands above deep valleys, historic mountain villages, and the rugged terrain of the Sarawat Mountains.
Stone houses, agricultural terraces, raw landscapes, and rapidly changing weather create a sense of isolation rarely experienced on an ordinary hiking route.
After gathering in Bani Malek and completing equipment checks, the route begins in Asfah Village. Adventurers pass old houses, agricultural terraces, and pathways connected to generations of mountain life before beginning the long ascent.
Each adventurer carries a personal backpack and overnight camping equipment. The team progresses through rugged trails, uneven ground, rocky passages, and elevated terrain during a day requiring approximately five to seven hours of movement.
As the team gains altitude, the views expand and the weather becomes increasingly changeable until the route reaches the camping area in the upper section of Jabal Ibrahim.
The route begins in Asfah Village, crosses the upper area of Jabal Ibrahim, and finishes with a descent towards Qamlan Village on the opposite side. It is a complete mountain crossing rather than a traditional return route.
Each adventurer carries personal overnight and camping equipment throughout the ascent and crossing.
Mountain camping in the upper area, far from roads and buildings and beneath an open sky.
Ascend from one side, explore the upper mountain, and descend from the opposite side.
The morning begins with breakfast and backpack preparation, followed by exploration of Jabal Ibrahim’s upper area and summit surroundings. The team then descends from the opposite side towards Qamlan Village.
Rated 6–7 out of 10, this adventure is suitable for adventurers with good fitness and previous long-distance hiking experience who can carry their equipment across rugged terrain on two consecutive days.
Carry your equipment into the upper mountain, camp above the valleys, and cross Jabal Ibrahim completely before descending on the opposite side. The campsite, route, or timing may change according to weather, trail conditions, group pace, and safety requirements.
